West End Branch & Derelict Tank Car

11/26/05

3/4 view of the 10,000 Gal. type 21 riveted tank car. West End Branch 11/26/05 (722kb) As you can barely see it is an American Car & Foundry car. 11/26/05 (577kb) Note the wood decking still attached the steel frame. 11/26/05 (722kb) AC&F car #48624. Not sure of the company owner as we could not see a name. 11/26/05 (4,575kb) Other end of car. The planking on the left side has rotted away. 11/26/05 (666kb)
Some lettering on the left of the image, but we could not make it out. Any suggestions? Probably a private car. 11/26/05 (682kb) This car is still sitting on the a section of the spur track rails resting against the wheel bumper. 11/26/05 (745kb) View showing the Shields Spur Track siding with tank car. Note.. the switch ties still in place. 11/26/05 (781kb) Nice view of the S bend where the wash out occurred. 11/26/06 (716kb) Close up view of the repaired wash out. Branch seems fully usable but there is a heavy coating of rust on the rails. 11/26/05 (768kb)
The West End Branch right of way looking towards Stuben Street Crossing with the West End Bridge in the distance. 11/26/05 (757kb) This is a shot of the Shields Co. building. Possibly the tank car's owner. You can see the old passing track on the right of the photo. 11/26/05 (844kb) Another view of the West End Branch looking east, toward the Parkway overpass. 11/26/05 (796kb) Another view looking east with the passing track to the left. 11/26/05 (863kb)
