Jayrod there was no date, actually. I was so excited at what I saw I didn't think of looking or asking for a date until I was long gone. Some research I did afterwards leads me to assume these engines were built specifically for the military during WWII and were used in Europe then sold off as surplus after the war. Maybe 1946?

That's what I was thinking. Quite a few were stationed at bases and armories around the country. I don't know how many went overseas. USATC started selling them off after the war.

Looking at the photo, the lack of armor leads me to think it was from a naval base. BTW, it's a 65-DE-14.
