From the Scott Township Facebook page:
Today in Scott Township History:
April 30, 1940: Five men are injured when a truck loaded with stone is forced off of Old Bower Hill Road (Main Street) and rolls down the embankment onto the Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railway tracks into the path of an oncoming train. A track gang working in the area was able to get the occupants out of the truck seconds before it was hit by the train. The truck was dragged about 100 yards by the train. The injured were sent to Woodville Hospital for treatment. In 1940, Old Bower Hill Road, both the part that is now Kane Boulevard and the part that is now the northernmost part of Main Street, is still paved with red dog, and is barely two lanes wide.

That track crew had a good story to tell. I wonder what locomotive was involved?

Hey thanks, that's good local stuff!
...still search'n for those elusive images/pics of the old E.W. Coal Co.
(Ed Witzburger) Hope Hollow Road, tipple operation & structures.
Circa 1940's-mid- 50's.
Facility serviced by the PRR Washington/Bridgeville
branch line. The local out of Scully/Carnegie yard placed
hopper cars on a short stub, just beyond the Washington Ave/Rt.50 bridge over-pass.
Pennsy cars were loaded & un-loaded by an old two-wheel portable gas-powered-conveyer.
When house coal customers began to decline mid- 1950's?, Ed bought an
Atlantic Gas Station & Tire/Car service franchise and also,
founded the near-by Heildelberg Raceway Park (dirt-track stock cars).

I worked for EW Tire in 1976-1977. I knew the history, and about the coal yard, but I never saw any photos of the coal yard or associated equipment.
