new topic ...no pun intended,
Dave,
our good late friend, Larry Kline e-mailed (about 2-years ago)
several B/W small snap-shot images of a P&WV wood caboose
at Bowest yard.
As I recall, it was cab #810, or maybe 808? Date?? late 1950's?
It sat on an isolated section of yard track, it's purpose was
P&WV car inspector/ Crew office & rest area for WM transfer traffic?
As the story goes... cab was removed upon completion on the
new'er WM crew facility at Bowest Jct.
Puzzle begins. At some point (as we understand it)
in was not burned/scrapped after again taken out of service by P&WV/WM.

At some point, this wood cab somehow/someway??? ended up, at what we think was Briggs & Turivas,
on the MTR line. Re-conditioned-painted
and sold to the MTR as their #32. Serving on the Montour
roster, until wood cabs were retired. (re-placed by steel U.P. cabs).

Sold again??? to a private owner? Painted Red with "Presidents Car"
stenciled on it? Stored near Coverdale #10 ROW (Bethel Park) for
a unknown period of time.
This cab (we think) surfaced yet again, near the WM chop-nose GP-9 at the old B&O/PAT Transit Station in PGH.
When this facility closed, it was moved to the
B&O's Glenwood yard area.
Re-sold late 1970's -80's??-Moved-Reconditioned to RT.8 Gibsonia, where serves as a
contractor/builders office, painted red with a P&WV stencil on it's side.

WHew!!!
Can you (or anyone else) add, correct or know about any of the above?
Larry Kline e-mailed images @ Bowest. However they are no longer on my
server, My hope. JR may have saved these, on a Hi Line exterior hard-drive.

I remember seeing a photo of that somewhere. I'll have to do some searching. I wonder if it is still there.

As of Jan. 1956 P&WV Caboose #810 was kept at Bowest Yard for P&WV TRAIN CREWS with lay-overs between 3 and 8 Hours. The short term crews thought it was a "considerable expense" to stay at the new BOWEST REST HOUSE that was recently opened on the hill above the yard/engine terminal.

The 810 was cleaned and kept heated by WM MofE forces.

WM made a request to the P&WV for its removal in Late Jan. 1956 .....hence the "considerable expense" line. WM requested all P&WV crews to use the new rest facilities.

Also its location was curtailing use of a track that could be better utilized by the WM.

The date of #810 removal back to Rook is unknown.

I remember when it was at Coverdale on the Montour.....my dad informed me at the time it was owned by "Doc" McNary....a vet. The date of removal is sometime in 1975 I'm guessing, before the Montour was abandoned.

It ended up in Finleyviile, Pa. on the B&O's "Pike" to Wheeling.
The #810 was coupled to a passenger car on a siding at the station which
I photographed in 1978.

Hence to Pittsburgh and the rest is modern day history..........

Now more on AIR BRAKES!

The 810 ended up in Finleyviile, Pa. stored along with a passenger coach on the B&O's "Pike" to Wheeking
