The new HO scale Masterline* Line 40' post-war box car have been released.
The plastic car shell design looks ok.
For the modelers who just like to run them, and are not into scale correct prototypes, it's a nice toy model.

.... those who want more accurate prototypes you might consider the Atlas Master Series undec.
cars, then make your prototype corrections.

P&WV Color & Graphics:
_____________________________________________________________

Car #1202 built date was " NEW 3/47 ", with a " RK-6/54 " re-shop.
The " Symbol of Serivice " first appeared on this car when re-shopped
@ Rook Car Shops 6/14/54. At this time, the "as delivered " red cars received
the one(1) coat primer, two(2) coats Semi-Gloss Black with White
reporting marks, SOS slogan and newer P&WV logo.

P&WV Car #1236 built date " NEW 3/47 ".
Re-shopped 4/22/54 Painted one(1) coat primer, two(2) coats
semi-gloss black. White reporting marks, SOS slogan & newer P&WV logo.

At this time, the Hi-Line/P&WV Archives has no record (Images/Color Pic/ Written Co.file discriptions etc. ) of any RED box cars with " Symbol of Service "
slogan stencil-applied.

BTW, Jayrod contacted Atlas folks, offered to send/help with correct
prototype car info & graphics. Never received any reply. JR/JZ/Jayrod also
believe the Atlas Red Car Color may be an "off-the-shelf-guess ".

Black body and a few minor data changes would make this car acceptable. Or remove the SOS slogan, move the logo and a few minor data changes.... Can't have it both ways at once. Close, but no cigar.

Did Micro-Trains do any better with this special run for BLW
or should these be black cars as well?

Ignore that Hi-Line image of 1236 (photoshopped). To the best of my knowledge, though anything is possible, it's highly unlikely that any SoS schemed box cars were painted in red/mineral brown. If anyone has evidence otherwise, we'd all certainly like to know.

Mini-rant: It would be nice if the manufacturers asked questions. Knowledgeable answers are free, here. We offer free advice and artwork in advance when we can but it's rarely if ever taken. For the most part, the only way to get a model close to accurate is DIY.

I've had other commitments that have left no time to produce any more P&WV artwork but box cars and gons are near the top the list.

Eric, I had not noticed when I first looked at the photo, but I see it now.
The 1236 does look like someone used septa toning or some other process
on the image. What looks like a PRR boxcar in the background looks
black & white not boxcar brown.

In a nut shell, would a quick fix for this car be, remove the SOS slogan?
I know it has the wrong door, but I have old eyes and not every detail has
to be perfect. The older I get, the more I'm a believer in the 5 foot rule

I could use some good 7300 series N scale gondola decals :D

You could remove the SoS slogan but the round logo would be in the wrong place. If anyone asks I guess you could explain that the stenciling guys had a couple brews at lunch and measured from the door instead of the end of the car. Sounds (hic) plausible (burp).

I've been collecting box car, gon and older hopper data so after the current commotion at ORHS dies down I may have some time to start playing with vectors again.
