Some past BB info from 2013 Inter-mountain Railway and
Scale Model AAR Offset-Hopper Graphics.

Well, maybe some good news....2013 BB.
Jayrod & JZ got some good positive response(s) from the
IM folks in regards to the new 6# run of P&WV open hoppers.
Jayrod is busy making final adjustments to the Logo &
all reporting marks etc. The artwork to be submitted/used
will be both historical & graphic correct design for each car.
These are for 1:87 scale, However, may see some
N scale stuff in the future as well. Keep your fingers crossed.

Will up-date and provide more info as this project rolls-along.

Jayrod had contacted them early on when they first made this announcement. Offered correct artwork. Never heard back!

...the IM offset hopper-car number selections.
did they have correct info? or, Intermountain guess?
JR/JZ/Jayrod not sold on the IM Red Color.
At present, Hi-Line Archives/Images collection found only this:

The selected black cars w/S-O-S stencils:

Did these folks at I.M. know/or understand that P&WV roster was 595 cars, series # 1 to 599 ?
(Have AFR's to show 4 car numbers retired due to wreck-damage)
This 1961 Contract covered only 220 cars selected to be re-shopped/re-built. All were mixed/random numbers & finished color.
We have no documents that show car numbers, or which cars were Red and which were Black.
Can show the original reporting marks & car numbers did not change.
The other 375 cars exchanged/sold (Greenville Steel car owned), were most likely scraped/repaired, sold/leased-out
to other R.R.’s. ...and these retained no P&WV data or reporting marks.

The 6700-6799 series (97 cars), was a sale/ lease program for the P&WV,
and included a changed number to 700-799 series. These repairs/re-builds were
made by Greenville Steel Car Co. and paid for from the 375 cars sale-deal.

best guess... All 700 series cars were painted Gloss Black/White Stencils, S-O-S. logo & data at Greenville Shops.
Most cars lasted well into the early N&W era.

By the end of 1962 the P&WV Official Records show a total of 585 hoppers combined ( Rib / U-Channel /Offset )
owned by the Railroad. and a Lease of 97 hoppers(700-799 series) for
a grand total of 682 cars for inter-change and off-line service.

WHEW!!!
.... think some of those I.M. selected car numbers may have issues
if no image of the car can be found.
Any P&WV fans out there have proto-type pic/slide ?

I've no clue where IM got the numbers for the cars in either set. Another thing to be aware of is that on both schemes, on some cars, time was taken to brush out the stencil tabs, on the rest of the cars the tabs were left as-is. The only way to know by car number is to have a photo in hand.

Per Hi-Line photos...
Black Symbol of Service, tabs brushed out: 1, 161, 458, 6735
Black SOS, tabs left in: 17, 717
Red Alphabet Route, tabs brushed out: 175, 223, 305, 568
Red AR, tabs left in: 93, 380, 399, 404, 512

The Greenville program ran for about a year from summer '60 through summer '61. The cars changed from the SOS scheme to the AR scheme sometime in '61 towards the end of the program. How many and which ones had the AR scheme? No idea.

It seems to me that the tabs were always brushed out on "Symbol of Service" even when the logo and reporting marks tabs were untouched.

On the red IM cars, the body color looks acceptable however the lettering should be chrome yellow. We see a lot of that light yellow/tan color on models because of old photos of faded cars. Chrome yellow has a lot of red pigment in it which oxidizes out due to UV exposure aka sun bleaching.

I've not seen any evidence that any of the rib or channel side hoppers ever received the SOS slogan. None of them ever saw red paint - that I know of.
