Below is what we (Jayrod/JZ)sent to Atlas Co.
If Hi-Line model fans want this black car, you must now Call, E-Mail or Write Atlas Co. supporting our suggestions.
__________________________________________________________

" Cars should be all black with white lettering. #1202 would have a Rook shop date of 6-54. #1236 would have a Rook shop date of 4-54.
Also, we are building a library of accurate, scalable vector graphics and paint info for P&WV rolling stock and locomotives.
Please feel free to contact us if you wish to use any of our artwork for future products (FM H-20-44???).

To be Historically/Proto-type CORRECT with the following cars they(Atlas) plan to introduce,
the Hi-Line strongly suggest these cars must be painted Black.
Original Car Shop Ledger info:

P&WV box car #1202 painted one(1) coat Primer and two(2) coats Semi- Gloss-Black, re-stenciled
With White data & reporting marks, with SOS, and newer logo.
Shop date 6/14/54

P&WV car # 1236 same as above, with re-shop paint date of 4/22/54

P&WV car # 1231 same as above, with re-shop paint date of 4/8/54

(we have additional 93 BX car series #’s with correct shop info)
Above information provided by the P&WV Hi-Line Tech. Hist. interest group
Original Archives Rook Pa. Car/Paint Shop Hand-written Company Shop Ledger.

...if these suggestions are followed, a much better increase in over-all sales etc..."

Late 1946 the P&WV ordered 100, 40' ten panel, steel box cars from American Car & Foundry (AC&F CO).
Series numbered 1200-1299 and delivered late in 1947. Cars were for general merchandise and coil-steel service.
The AC&F cars were produced with 8' corrugated doors, with
4/3/1/ Improved Dreadnaught Ends. Also with foreshorten top-rib
typical of post-war cars with 10' 4'' interior height.

When delivered "NEW" they were box-car-red, with only a P&WV
logo placed to the far right, centered on the last panel.
During late 1952, as these cars returned for major/minor shop repairs
they began to receive a new look. With one coat-primer and two coats
semi-gloss black finish. Cars would also have the White S O S
(Symbol of Service) car data, and logo re-applied.

(Late 1955, early 56') Individual cars #1219, 1221, 1236, 1239,1249, 1251, 1263, 1264,
1271, 1284 received Rook Car-shop installed Evans " DF " Utility
Loaders and mech. designation XME.

...at this same time (Sept./Oct.1956) P&WV leased from the NKP
Nickel Plate Road (13) 50' dbl. door box cars, series # 1500 -1512, re-Painted & Lettered @ Rook,
semi-gloss Black with White stenciled S-o-S and P&WV Logo & reporting marks.
Cars also had the Evans DF loaders installed by the Rook Car
shops.

These DF loader 40'-50' box cars were part of Alphabet Route Pool Service NKP-WM-P&WV-RDG cars to service
GM auto plant & parts wrse.

A note about the 50' cars - These were built by Ralston Steel Car Co. out of Columbus, Ohio. I don't know of any models available in any scale but with a bit of filing on the sill and some other minor mods you can probably make a suitable stand-in.

Of -Note:
All* the Leased 50' box cars were returned to the NKP
by May/June 64'. The DF loaders installed by the P&WV remained in the returned box cars.
NKP paid the P&WV for this add-on DF equipment installed.
Interesting. P&WV reporting marks on (Ex, NKP) car #1511 and 1512 were still on the N&W
active car *Official Equipment Registry in Jan. 65'

Just prior to the N&W merger the P&WV leased (July 3, 1964) thirteen(13) New 89'
TTX flat-cars. Also, purchased "Tie-down" equipment to be installed
on these leased cars. This as a result of New GM Car/Frame design, making the use of the 50' box cars less efficient.

Again, Contract handling Chevrolet Auto frames for the Budd Co.
between Philmont Pa. and Flint, Mich. This was the P&WV portion of pool equipment for movement of 235 cars monthly.
