Has anyone ever seen photos of the General Cement Products Corporation plant that was across from Childs Equipment in Castle Shannon? You can see the very top of it in the photo on the current image site, while a local is spotting a car at Childs. I grew up across the valley and am now modeling this area in HO scale. Thanks

We(HiLine) don't have any pics of General Cement Corp./Tom Brown Inc.???
....do have some AFE Aug. 15,1961 which granted an extension to the spur track.
( to total 9-Cars)

Also have General Notice # 81.
March 18, 1958.
Report of Tom Brown Spur Track @ M.P.48.26
...off Castle Shannon passing track, westward movement switch, stub-end,
with pipe connect de-rail. current Capy. 7-cars. Wheel Report & Billing, thru agent @ Longview.

I think, N&W disc. rail-spur- service about 1983?

*Cement Pre-cast Products, both raw & finished products shipped/recieved

Doing an internet search, I found a newspaper advertisement for about 1938? for the cement products. I am guessing that dry cement was delivered to them? Do you think stone and sand would have also been delivered? Also I guess that prior to the 1950's box cars would have been used and after covered hoppers?

Dave,
HMmm... 1938? that sounds a bit to early for the
General Cement Corp./Tom Brown Inc.
Tom Brown & Family
began the Shannon operations about 1952.
I would guess most material(raw/finished) were handled with
cov. hoppers and box cars by rail, with majority of finished products
shipped out by Motor Truck.

I just looked it up again. I is from Sunday August 30, 1936. It is an ad in the Pittsburgh Press. I found it under google news.
