Late morning spotted WLE-tigers, GP40-3 (305?) and a
EMD SD40-3 (New one) all stopped at Benicoll Crossing.
The train 25 tank loads & 1 spacer, waiting for the tie & surface gang
(about 10 pcs. MOW) to clear the main, and back on to the Mifflin Branch.

...at that same time three(3) AVR EMD SD-40-3's # 3001, 3004 and
3005 were pulling up out of Glenwood Yard & up Streets Run.
75-cars,(mostly MTY's) for
Bruceton (WLE)Interchange.

With Longview now cleared of the MOW tie gang, they(WLE) arrived at
Bruceton about noon. Then the big interchange swap began.

WE boys brought their train all the way down to the AVR main switch,
just past AVR units parked lite on their main.
WE boys set the brakes, un-coupled moved down(AVR Main) lite to Whitehall Tunnel.

The three AVR units then moved to get the 25 & one left standing on the
inter-change grade. Then pulled-down and backed into the clear.
With all switch's re-lined, the two WE units drag'n the 75 cars picked-up at
Whitehall tunnel pulled back up the interchange, and now West-bound on the main for Rook.
Soon after the AVR units & train rolled back down Streets Run and into Glenwood Yard.

The whole show lasted about 45 mins.
Sorry no pics, me & young grandson were just passing-by,
and got lucky.

PWVJer, How often does the Wheeling run down to AVR interchange at
Bruceton? How often do they go all the way to Connellsville?
Do you happen to know if they run on a schedule or as needed?

How often does the Wheeling run to West Mifflin?
Does the same train that serves the Bruceton interchange also service
West Mifflin?

One of these days I hope to get trackside along the old P&WV, but I don't want to spend the day staring at empty track :?

Rich,
I really don't follow the WLE's daily activities.
But sitting out on my/and my sons porch's, we do hear the
AVR at least 4, sometimes 5 good size moves (up & back), blow'n for the Streets Run X's.

Who works the Bruceton Interchange? Well, we have seen both WE
C'ville & Monessen crews do both set-offs & pick-ups. But not always. Also hear at least
6-10A.M. 6/7- days as needed, often meets or waiting for AVR to clear.

A late eve.7-9p.m. WE runs as well. AVR has direct crews out of Glennwood,
up & Back(at least once a day) quick, and the Washington Pa crew also makes drops &
prepares return inter-change pick-ups when back from Wash./84 pa.

Think Mifflin traffic as needed, 3-4 times a week, see/hear at any time.

Sunday Morning's seen nice over-all meets, lots of power & good size trains AVR/WLE.
...folks need a good radio/text-friend & listen-up!

WLE Road Foreman... "traffic is good and growing" for Rook East.

Thanks for the info on approximate train times. I was listening to the Railroad Radio web site
over the winter as one of the links was setup for the W&LE and AVR. I was mostly interested
in movements on the old P&WV, trying to figure out what ran when. Well about a month ago
something happened to the website and when they came back on line the Pittsburgh Short
line link was discontinued. The funny part is on the main web page the link is still listed, but
when you click on the link you receive the message

Quote:
We're sorry to have to announce that this stream has had to be discontinued due to the relocation of the stream host.

Unfortunately for me, I live far enough away from the old P&WV that my scanner cannot
pickup any of the railroad chatter. I guess I'll just have to pick one of my off days and hope
for the best.
