Starting in 1939, to spiff up P&WVs image a bit, there was a run of hoppers being shopped and repainted gray with yellow markings and trim. I can't imagine that the yellow would stand out much on a gray background. Does anyone know how many cars went through that program and is there a photo available of the side of one of these cars?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Jayrod;

Longview Shops did a run of HO / P&WV hoppers in grey many years ago.

The story(in-a-nutshell) ....R.R. & the Coal Co.'s were trying
to impress Bank & $$$ Investors to raise some capital. Mine #9 in Avella, and also a portion of #1. ???
The plans we hear, and can somewhat put together
is about 40-50? hoppers were painted real pretty, but not many received any
type of real car-work. They were all lined-up at Rook. Vsits by possible
investors would get the feel & look ( so-to-speak )
of a great $$$ making project in the works. Some P&WV/Coal Co. investements were made in the mines as well.
But, we all know how those project(s) worked out.

I wonder if there were any publicity photos taken and if so, are they still around? Sure would like to take a gander at them.

...one more thing.
I never saw any color images or official car archives info, total cars, car #'s etc.
we do have a fair B/W print.
When/if I can find we will put it on the site.
The longview Shops* car w/Yellow reporting marks were/are
very nice & correct. But the grey color, looks a bit too lite.
No facts on my part, just an observation.
