Does anyone out there know if Rook ever used graphite or other heat resistant paint on the smoke box and fire box bottom or did they just slather black from stem to stern? Since washing wasn't a high priority, you certainly can't tell in most B&W photos what might be under all the soot & coal dust. _________________ Eric Schlentner

interesting question, very hard to tell with our B/W prints.
The Hi-Line collection includes at least one of every rostered steamer.
I think we are only missing 1 or 2 of the very early locos.
However, it looks like a sure bet that 200, 201 and 202 had the
graphite applied by ALCO and at least once by Rook Shops in
the P&WV's short lived passinger era.
All the others???? |
