JZ and I were out at the Westland site checking on the progress of construction. It was muddy and a dull morning, but we took a number of photos. I put them in the Hi-Line photo gallery.

Enjoy

...yes sir, a bunch of new images showing the progress on the new Westland branch line.
A few pics we added to the mix are from the very old, PRR connection off the Houston Pa. branch.
(Steel-Bridge Shots) The spur also at one time served the Westland Mine.
This old bridge is a only a mile or so from the new Westland Yard & gas-transfer facility.
The other pics we added are the
ex.(PRR/Conrail/PIR/OC/ and now GW's Pgh & Ohio Central, Cannonsburg/Huston Pa. branch End-of-track.
Some years back this ROW made connection from this point with the B&O
near the Tylerdale Jct.??? (Washington Pa.)...about one rail-mile from the last
"end of track" image.
Enjoy!
JR/JZ.

Thanks for the photo report. Seems they're moving right along on both ends but what's up with those small farm access under passes? Fill 'em in? Rebuild? Guess we'll just have to wait & see...

Jayrod,
Good Question. Maybe a fill with a new(er) pre-formed-cement arch?
A good rumor has a Mark-West* branch completation date, if all goes well,
Late June, 2012.
Penn-Dot will close much of Southview Rd. starting Jan,3.
All detour signs are now in place.
What's the plan with a new Johnson Road Bridge?
How many yard & loading tracks at Westland are planned?
Lights & gates at State Route-50?

... would sure like to visit the folks inside that Project-Planner-Trailer/office.

Random Thought of the Day...

Someone may be able to do a news story for posting here. You'd have to contact and get permission from the contractor and MarkWest Liberty. Do some interviews, shoot some photos or video, get some plans or artists conception if they have one, etc. I'd volunteer but I'm not real local. I'd be happy to edit and assemble. The worst they can say is "No".

Any takers out there?

jayrod

They've been keeping a close watch on it over on the Montour Yahoo Group. Grading and fill is under way for the WLE connection and the construction of the new bridges for rail and trail at Southview Rd is moving along at this time.

Interestingly, GPS has been posting a lot of photos at the Montour group that he has acquired of the original Westland branch construction back in the '20s.
