Per the Montour Yahoo group, it appears that work has started in earnest on rebuilding the Westland branch to access MarkWest Liberty.

Also, no word yet on whether or not the branch would be extended to service a reopened Westland mine. That whole project may be NIMBY'd out of existence, though.

Jayrod,
Ol'e JR & JZ may take a boots-on-the-ground look, maybe
this Sat./Sun.? Late A.M.( if all plans go well and the weather
is O.K.)
We will try to post an Image/story line if possible.
Don't count the Westland Mine Operations out.
As our friends on the "Montour" board preach:
There's a lot of interesting R.R. plans & assorted energy Ideas, about to
move foward.
Much of it, just now, beginning to really fast track!
JR/JZ.

Shame I'm not a bit more local. Used to do a lot of old ROW tramping. Haven't been through that area since the '70s when we'd gas up the car and try to get lost.

Hi JR/JZ,
Very nice photo update of the work going on in Westland :D Hopefully the mine deal will go through. Last bit of rumor I heard, the LPG loads are to move west and the coal is to move east to Connellsville. If all pans out, it sounds like the old P&WV now W&LE might become a busy railroad.
( keeping fingers crossed )

Regards,
Rich S.
