... heard these recollections & stories from some of the "old-hats".
After 1956 or so, P&WV FM helper power would sometimes assist longer and heavy east-bound trains.
Both P&WV FM's and NKP GP 7-9's were part of the shared Brewster-Rook pool-power arrangements on the PGH-Div.
Leaving Brewster, these Alpha-Jets often included a wide varity of regular frieght, and blocks of loaded Ore hoppers.
The (2-3) FM units assigned to Avella/Mingo were also rear helpers for both NKP and P&WV pool power.
" We'd get on the rear at Mingo...
shove east to Hickory, then cut-out (on the fly) near the Station".
Long & heavy east-bound AJ's leaving Rook with WM pool-
power, (3 & 4 unit Covered Wagons and Geep sets),
would sometimes require help out of the yard or pick-up the P&WV helpers at West Liberty.
" Slow start, up-hill & lots of curves going east, we'd push hard, then cut-off at Longview".
Much of this type of action took place in 1959, just before and after the long National Steel-Mill Strikes.
BTW, still searching for any images and additional information on these NKP-WM ( with P&WV helpers) action moves. |
