Head there was meetings in Connellsville recently that a out of town contractor is interested in tearing down the 1,501 foot long 1st Crossing of the Youghiogheny River Bridge. The contractor is reportedly headquartered in Wyoming. The water authority is worried demolition of the bridge might damage their facility. I hear the contractor wants to use explosives to knock the bridge off the concrete pedestals. The City is also balking about removing the unused P&WV Bridge.
Can anyone provide further information?

Hhmmm, that's interesting! Scrap prices must be way-up! I thought the rail/ trail group wanted to open and keep this bridge crossing. |

The catwalk on that bridge has gotten progressively spookier; I'm sure somebody will start worrying about liability at some point.
That said, it is a great bridge, and it would be nice to see it put to use.
Can't speak for sure about scrap prices, but when they steal a junk stove and fridge and sink from our camp, must be some reason.
