Ben,
The ALCo-Pittsburgh # 20 was the Rook Yard Switcher in the P&WV steam-era.
It also worked as the Wabash Terminal Station/Wrse. Local.
P&WV #21 was it's twin. This unit was sold in 1938 to Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel Corps.
Monesson works (MSW R.R.) were it joined "like" steam power working the Mill area. |

Was #20 the only steam era yard switcher at Rook ?
or did they also use 2-8-0's ?
That 0-6-0 doesn't seem big enough to pull a full cut of cars
out of a yard track. |

When Rook Yard was really busy in the WW-2 years they often had two(2) yard crews working.
Most likely they would use a 2-8-0 or even the light pacific 4-6-2, or what ever...
One yard crew's work included the WPT station and Belt Jct.) While one worked West-End of Rook.
Read over the West-End CTC *Current Archives Page*, second Image, interesting #30 account.
The West crew...
could also run out and work the O'Hommell/Sipes Paint plant @ MP57.6. |
