| I am going to repaint a Lionel Mikado eng to P&WV livery. Could someone out there tell me the color of the smokebox? I think any color of black will be OK for the rest of it. I would like to have it close to the model, picktured in the model section. Thanks........ |

Look in the Bill Poellot photo albums in the Historic Images galleries. There are several color photos of P&WV light and heavy 2-8-2s. There are additional B&W photos in some of the other galleries. I usually paint steam locos a dark gray color. The color and B&W Poellot photos in the galleries suggest to me that the smoke boxes were often a little darker gray than the rest of the loco.
