Here are some pics of the extended passing and connecting trackwork. They have started the work at Whitehall tunnel
and are working down towards Bruceton.
These pics show the work from the Whitehall portal to the Hosmer cement plant. These are pictures of the
grading and drainage work as it progresses.
Enjoy

Right of way looking towards Bruceton near the Hosmer cement plant.
Right of way looking towards Whitehall tunnel. The old Colonial Gallery warehouse is on the right.
S Curve just before entering the Whitehall tunnel.
Spacer bars have been place about every 30 ft. or so on this section of the line. I guess this will keep the coal trains on the track.

A view of the drainage work to prevent washouts just before the Whitehall tunnel.
The Bructon side of the Whitehall tunnel.
Whitehall tunnel looking towards Streets Run Rd.
This welded rail section stretched well into the tunnel. It seems this will be the replacment for some well worn section rail.
A view of some extensive ditching work along this section of the line.
Survey stakes for the position of the line.
Another view along side the Hosmer plant.
View of the line looking towards the Bruceton interchange, about a mile away. |

So I'm assuming they have some new traffic lined up for all this new rail. Any idea what it might be?
Also, I can't really tell, but is that tunnel wide enough for two tracks t fit through? |

The tunnel in the B&O days had two tracks. Chessie removed (1)one for better clearance and lack of line traffic.
From what we know they will place the switch just outside the tunnel
(Whitehall end)
and then only(2) tracks down to the second (stub) switch at the Bruceton Inter-change. This is the story we heard.
We are not sure what traffic they expect to have. Maybe the AVR/B&P fans have the answers. |

JR/JZ...
I think the overpass is Curry Hollow instead of Lebanon Church?
I have a bunch of construction b&w negs of that overpass being built.
In addition, I have many images of the Curry Hollow 4 lane being
built from the P&WV overpass in Curry to the B&O overpass.
Also, there is 2 scenes of a B&O "Piker" complete with B&O Steam near
Curry Hollow overpass when it was a rural farm road/crossing enroute back to Glenwood complete with a B&O wood caboose.
Whitehall Tunnel, including Streets Run from Hays down through Bruceton,
Experiment, Snowden, Finleyville out through Thomas Tunnel was all double track, that was reduced in the late 70's to single track.
Even though its originally B&O, its a lovely piece of railroad...
Lots of never ending curves and plenty of grades.
During the 70's, lots of B&O EMD F units including Western Maryland.
Too bad the CPL's are retired.
Maybe we will see the return of a once very active interchange at Bruceton?

GPS.
Curry Road overpass, your right... not our P&WV but, it is an interesting line. Not in very
good shape now,
but I think this is going to change for the better. If you like, get some of these Pike pics to PWV101 along with the other stuff, maybe
we can do a bit of "Then & Now" comparisons on the BB.

Wonder if they're gonna do any tie replacement and ballast on the main. The inside rails on the curves are starting to straight-line between the joint bars. Won't be long before they start putting wheels on the ground due to wide gauge. Looking at the photos, coming out of the tunnel there's already CWR on the outside of the curve and through the tunnel. Replacing the inner rail will require some ties if you adhere to the one-in-five-good rule for minimum maintenance to maintain gauge. Gauge bars are supposed to be a temporary bandaid. It'll be interesting to see what transpires... _________________ Eric Schlentner
