We chased the train from State Line tunnel in PA to Rook yard. It was rainy, overcast and dull but we did our best to brighten the day with these images.

The P&WV 101 with the ORHS excursion heading eastbound approaches State Line tunnel.
P&WV 101 exits State Line tunnel.
A closeup of the P&WV 101 at the east portal of the State Line tunnel.
The grade crossing just east of State Line tunnel.
Rear of the excursion clears the State Line crossing.
From high above on the hill tops the excursion is seen between the twin tunnels of Buxton and Craighead.
A very long telephoto shot of the excursion heading into the Craighead tunnel.
A station platform view of the special rolls past the restored Avella station.
An action view at Avella station as the 101 rolls on.
Happy rail fans greet us as they pass by.
Horns, bells and flashing signals announce the approach of the special at PA State Rt. 50 grade crossing.
An opposite view at the Rt. 50 grade crossing.
Young rail fans enjoy the view after passing the Rt. 50 grade crossing heading to Hickory.
The excursion with the 101 leading rounds the curve with Hickory tunnel bore just ahead.
With the tunnel now in full view the up hill climb will be complete.
Steel wheels rolling over jointed rails ... what a great sound. The train is at the west end of Hickory tunnel.
A bullseye shot of the train in the Hickory tunnel.
The passanger cars on the Sygan bridge/viaduct.
Another view at the Sygan bridge at MP61.
Passangers, now at their Rook, PA destination exit the train.
WLE pool power on the left and the ORHS 471 idle in Rook yard.
A nice P&WV image moment at Rook yard.
A splash of motive power color on an overcast, rainy day. |

Who was sponsoring this excursion? Any more coming up over the summer? I'd be particularly interesting in something that headed down towards Connellsville. . . . . |
