After reading about Howards newest book,
I always wondered what to do with the
thousand or so P&WV Authority for Expenditures
I have. Then there is the thousand or so
P&WV General Notices. Talk about a Historical
documentation of a period of time in the life
of the P&WV? The AFE's tell you in detail what
is being done to better the railroad...dated with
dollar amount then the General Notices
walk you through day to day operations.
I also have preserved 2 gigantic Completion
Books from the P&WV. Completion Reports
went to the ICC. Completion Reports were
inventories of the railroad assets that covered
everything from inside the Office to the most
distant branch.
I almost forgot, I have several files full of
copies of train orders on Form 19's(?)
I think these are copies of the originals made
by the Rook Train Dispatcher in his daily
movement of trains. Again, another good read
on day to day operations.
I wonder how much interest books on P&WV AFE's
and General Notices would generate?

The expenditure forms could be very interesting in book form, even if it was a softbound edition. For that matter, the train orders could be about half of the book, and the expenditures could be the other. If the cost is kept under about 40.00, I would say there could be lots of local interest, and interest from former residents of W. Pa. and East Ohio. Authorization on expenditures on very familiar structures like the Speers bridge, and Greentree tunnel would be some that people would turn to first. I too have a large box of train orders, and for younger railfans those "flimseys" are something that they have only seen in a book, instead of picking them up along the right-of-way, or having a crew member give some to you, or in my case, scronging them off of cab floors, or out of the trash, particuarlly when I realized that they were on there way out about 15 years ago, or more!

Well, GPS here's what you could to do. Gather-up a small selection of your Form 19's, Completion Reports and AFE's that you feel may be of interest to most fans. You can add a few Images as well, try and get them all with-in a specific time frame(same day, month,year etc.). We would need a 12 block min. and 20 max. to form the story-board.

We would take the originals and "Scan, Adjust, Size & Clean" and work a bit of our Hi-Line magic story board stuff. Present it on one of our up-dates...and return your original copy's.

Our "Simple Host" admin. page could then be checked in a few weeks. We can then tell about how many folks visited the page and how much(average) time they spent looking and maybe get some real time BB feed-back.
If you need some help with older images(pics) we have a good pile of stuff and if needed, I'm sure some others would also help out.
Give it some thought, no rush on this, our plates are pretty-full right now anyway.
