Last year from time to time I'd see W&LE units in this (Detroit) area, tied up at CN's ex-DT&I Ford Yard in Wyandotte, MI. I believe I read somewhere that these were run-through units on coke trains operating from Clairton to either U. S. Steel's former Great Lakes Steel/National Steel facilities in Ecorse/River Rouge, MI and/or to Rouge Steel in Dearborn, MI. Can any of you verify? If this is the case, these trains would have operated over the ex-P&WV, correct? Are these trains still operating? By the way the one day I saw a W&LE and B&LE unit together at Ford Yard--not a CN unit in sight!

I wouldn't be surprised. A little off topic but I remember many, MANY years ago a P&LE conductor told me that after Conrail was formed, (something to do with trackage rights, I guess) it wasn't unusual to see P&LE coal drags as far west as Michigan & Wisconsin and as far north as
Massachusetts!!

In the late spring of 2005, BLE 909 found its way onto W&LE rails. It made many trips between Rook and CN rails in the North.

It was indeed B&LE 909 I saw the day I mentioned (7/13/2005) at Ford Yard in Wyandotte, MI. The W&LE unit was the 5391.

Yes, B&LE 909 was a wonderful sight on the P&WV.
From Pittsburgh Junction to Monessen...
And both Mifflin & Clairton Branches.
Amen...
