The WLE brought a ballast machine and a track alignment machine to finish the job on the new track at the connection. The alignment machine was very interesting. The optical measuring would take place first and then after the data was collected the alignment would take place. Each area of tie and track was clamped onto and raised to the corrected level. The tong type jaws would then push down into the ballast and move in and out pushing ballast under the tie to raise the track and make it level and straight. As you can see by the photos the track is perfectly aligned. It now makes the main look a bit shabby. The AVR was finishing up on the switch at the main.
