Found a copy on e-Bay of the High and Dry. Been looking off and on for years, found one at a price I liked.

I whole hearty agree. The High & Dry book is a must have for fans of the
P&WV. Another P&WV book I own and have enjoyed reading through is
the Timetable book

http://www.amazon.com/Pittsburgh-West-Virginia-Railway-Timetables/dp/0965862054

By Howard V. Worley. It contains all of the employee timetables from
the very first one issued by the railroad, up to the very last issued
employee timetable before the P&WV was leased by the N&W railway.
The book also contains a track chart showing mile posts, siding locations,
signal placement and siding names, plus the branch lines along with
black & white photo's taken along the line.

Guess I should have said I had bought the book. I flipped thru it, found several photo's of my Grandfather and I believe one of my Great-Grandfather, now I've started reading it.

How much did you pay for your copy of the high and dry? I'm looking at getting a copy of that book myself but am not sure what is considered fair market value for this item (current prices I see seem high with $100 being about the average).

Hi Blane,
My memory is a little fuzzy, but I want to say the book was in the $50 to $60 price range when new. Now that both books are out of print, unfortunately the price has gone though the roof. Amazon at the present time seems to have the best prices for a Used - Like New P&WV book with a price of $89.99. They also have a new Pittsburgh & West Virginia Railway Timetables for $74.50. In my opinion, both books belong on the book shelf of anyone interested in the "High & Dry" as both books are loaded with invaluable information on the railroad.

Hi Blane, Don't remember the price, what ever it was I must of like the price, I would have paid double as the PWV is part of my family history. Good luck with your purchase.

Also for your library:

Howard's "West Side Belt" and "Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal" books.
David Aitkins "Little Saw Mill Run Railroad"

All highly recommended to get the whole story.

You can also find the final ICC report concerning the WPT bankruptcy in Google Books online.
