I've built a model of the station, and wish to put in an interior. Does anyone know what the inside looked like? If so I'd appreciate the help. |

Are you referring to the P&LE Monessen depot? If so, you might try the P&LE Yahoo! group. Passenger operations on The P&WV ended about the time the Connellsville Extension opened. I don't think there was an actual depot built at Monessen/Belle Vernon but I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong. _________________ Eric Schlentner

I mean the one that was located next to the former Wye Above the present route 201. The PWV "Station", which was pretty much just the yard office. |

The Stations at Longview & Sudan have basic same interior/exterior
dimensional design layout. Stations may differ only within a few inch's.
Front portion of the roof-over-hang. Signal/blade tower small nitch-cut (Longview/Sudan.)
Small porch roof @ Monessen on side door added later years?.

Was the Monessen station the same type of little bay window shanty?
I noticed that the Longview shanty had a notch in the corner of the roof. Was that so the operator could see the signal from the desk? _________________ Eric Schlentner

I think the roof "notch" for LONGVIEW Station was for the train order semaphore.
When you came into the side door of Longview, Monessen and Clairton Station there was a narrow "back room" separating the agents office. There was also a ladder to access the attic. I believe there was a sink with running water.
Just inside the exterior back door was the doorway into the agents bay windowed office. Inside and out it was all wood.
I was inside Longview and Monessen many times, of course it was tight inside. I may of been in Clairton once or twice before it was torn down and deposited along the Clairton Branch west of the tunnel.
And lastly for "J.B"...there was a fella at the Castle Shannon train show who had several wood laser cut HO scale models of this station. Maybe Jerry or Ed can put out his contact info on them in the event you want to contact him. |
