Weird as it is, out of my own curiosity, I've been working a list by mile post of the WPT/WSB/P&WV stations and commercial spurs just to get an idea of where traffic originated or was delivered. The first part which is WPT & P&WV Pittsburgh Division is complete enough to share for corrections or comments. I'm still compiling WSB & Connellsville Division.
Passing and storage tracks are not included as as those came and went or moved around a bit.

BTW Hi-Line fans this is a great "Jayrod Project", easy
to read, and full of correct ROW & Traffic info.
Nice!

jayrod, Very nice listing of all the spurs and flag stops. As a kid, I remember my maternal grandparents next door neighbor, had told me she use to catch the local passenger train to Pittsburgh, at the Treveksyn Flag Stop. I believe she told me the small shelter was located beside the Alpine road bridge, that crosses over the P&WV railroad tracks on National Hill. I cannot remember if she told me, if the shelter was along the main track or located along the Gladden passing siding? Again thanks for the list and bringing back a fond memory. _________________ Regards,

Rich,
The shelter likely would have been on the main since passenger trains had priority. You'd blow your schedule taking a siding for a stop 'n go flag stop. _________________ Eric Schlentner

Longview Shops here,
New to the billboard
but not the gameboard.
Saw your discussion of Stationing. Thought I'd offer this spreadsheet started in the late 90's.
maybe you can pull some info from it
the stationing number should actually tie into railroad valuation stationing.
enjoy

Ed - Lots of good info here. I'm going to "borrow" some of that and incorporate it into my lists as well as check my mileposts. Eventually, I'd like to get this all on an on-line interactive map.

In case anyone but me is curious, this little project continues as I gather info on the Cville extension and branches. I'll post the completed lists as soon as they're finished. _________________ Eric Schlentner

I've gotten a good start on it and the branches. I just need to cough up about 6 hours or so to finish and check it. Time, as usual, is the issue. The final MPs will be as on the last day of operation. _________________ Eric Schlentner

This is starting to give me a headache. Not being a civil engineer, though I understand stationing, where would sta. 0.0 be located? The downtown terminal?
I ask as I'm looking at a 1949 track diagram. It shows MP 0 = Sta Pt 2104+01 in Connellsville at the P&LE switch. Working back towards Pittsburgh, it shows the Pittsburgh Division starting at MP 53 or 104+23.8 (or 82+32.7, from where I don't know) at the west end of West Belt Jct. Moving further west towards towards Rook, the station points start to increase again. Remember, at this time, the Terminal was gone. So, is sta. pt. 00.+0.0 an imaginary point at the now removed terminal?
It doesn't make a difference in determining mileposts, this is mostly a curious question. _________________ Eric Schlentner

Update - I've slogged my way through all WPT, P&WV, C'Ville Extension and all the branches except WSB starting 1904 through 1935. Should be able to complete it soon. Info for each point is accurate up to the last year active in the timetables, last of which was 1956. If someone has an April 1965 N&W Pittsburgh Division Timetable, I can complete the list through the end of P&WV. All I need are the stations list and spurs list. _________________ Eric Schlentner

I don't have a April 1965 N&W Pittsburgh Division timetable. Have you tried contacting Gene Schaeffer to see if he has one? _________________ Regards,

I'm real close to finishing it but other projects get in the way. All told, it's comprised of: WPT, WSB, P&WV, Cville Extension and branches: Bell, West End, Pittsburgh, Clairton and Donora. Mile posts/stationing changes, especially around West Belt Jct have been a joy to figure out (not). After the "new" drawings are sorted and cataloged, I'd like to put in a list of proposed branches not built. I think some of those drawings are in there. It's been an interesting little side project. _________________ Eric Schlentner

I have the station list page from timetable #200.
I have it scanned; is there a way to attach it to a message? If not, send me a message and maybe I can email it.

Chris,
Is #200 the April 1965 TT? That'll help with the accuracy at the end of P&WV operations. Would you please email a copy? Click the email button at the bottom of the post, it should open your email program with my email address in the "To" box and then you can send an attachment. If that doesn't work for some reason, post back and I'll send you an email that you can reply to.

ALL the P&WV/WSB/WPT timetable info...
in Howard Worley's book ....
" Pittsburgh & West Virginia Railway Timetables Paperback – November 17, 2006 "
Check with the AC&Y, Akron Model railroad club, or some
of your passenger car friends. Think? you could/might/may borrow
a copy. I got one, can't find it, think??? Charley F.
or someone has it ???
The Hi-Line collection has Original Company WSB/P&WV Office Stamped TT's
#17,18,19,20,21,22,23, 25,26, and 27. |

Sorry, should have made myself less opaque. What I'm looking for is pre-P&WV, 1903 to 1917 time frame when they ran somewhat independently. After 1917 they were published with P&WV and I have those. Worley's WPT book has a 1903 WSB track chart but it isn't well notated. I have the WSB book on order - hope there's a bit of somethin' in there I can use. Deep web search turns up naught. I may have to make some guesses based on scaling.
LSMR will be a little hard to pinpoint, too since half of it was gone by 1939. I think I can approximate most of it. _________________ Eric Schlentner

OMG!!! Finally. You ain't gonna believe it. Below is a link to the 98% complete Connellsville Division and the Pittsburgh Division/WPT. I'll fill in the few missing pieces as I have time.
Branches are complete except West End Branch - this is getting done in conjunction with a separate West Side Belt & Little Saw Mill Run.
Stationing was a pain in the butt: On October 30, 1964, Pierce was station 0+00 for the Connelsville Division and ended westward at West Belt Junction where the Pittsburgh Division stationing started - an arbitrary point with no 0+00. You'll see it on the Connellsville list since the Connellsville Division ran to Rook.
Im'a closin' in and I still have hair....

Updated the list again today. Added a short introduction and noticed a glaring error in that the Rehoboth industrial spur was not included (wasn't on my track chart so I ain't the only one who missed it). I had to measure off Google Earth Pro so the MP/Sta. aren't exact but they should be darn close. Use the link in the above post. _________________ Eric Schlentner

Whew!!!
nice job Jayrod! Think ??? the only other thing
we might want to consider, is adding some images to match
this fine correct P&WV ROW info entries.
No doubt, a long careful arduous task to do this project.
Gathering images from the
entire Hi-Line collection & interested fans.
Choosing/gathering from private personal collection(s) pics.
JZ/GPS /Bill P. /Howard W. /WM Historian /Chuck /Charlie /Ed.
L Kline Collection, and perhaps several others not mentioned above.
Would be terrific if we could get about 3-4 each ( Then & Now -Looks - Images )per-entry. |

I think that could be incorporated into an interactive map. Or sounds like some sort of publication. I also have some of the old underground mine maps that show spurs. _________________ Eric Schlentner

Fantastic job Eric.
A couple additions.
When the extension was built, at Owensdale, there was a temporary connection to the PRR..later rebuilt to the SWP. P&WV sent a few work trains to Bridgeville routed to Radebaugh / Owensdale.
Rehobeth had a few extra customers such as Montgomery Ward, 84 Lumber.
On the Connellsville Division, just west of Brownsville Road was the spur to Pittsburgh Terminal #5.
A bit further west was the spur to South Pittsburgh Water at MP 45.1.
On the Pittsburgh Division, at Kolmont Spur was Vancoram with its 2 sets of tracks for the plant.
There was also a passing siding at Venice, its west switch wasnear the Montour RR overpass.
Also Bell Branch down near MP 87.
I think the MP for "Adams" is off a bit ?
