T’was just before Christmas
Quite some time ago
Not much was stirring
Along the P&WV Route.
The cabooses…the run-throughs.
The traffic control
Now retired decades ago.
As Santa was planning.
His Christmas Eve Route.
The Rook crew now.
Was working its own route..
Crossing the high bridges.
Connellsville bound.
I made my way.
In the falling snow.
Following the extension.
On my way east.
At Connellsville the crew.
Turned back west.
At Sodum they stopped.
Behind the red.
As they sat and waited
For traffic to clear.
Across from the station.
A motion to Zack.
On their way back.
Coming into Chaintown.
Would you please.
Make lots of noise.
For the camera’s you see.
That roadswitcher.
That sits there.
Will make quite the scene.
Remembering past times.
On the P&WV.
In the snow.
Down at the west end.
The westward home signal.
Stood transfixed.
The Alco roadswitcher.
Looked unique.
Both creating.
A Christmas scene.
When off to the east.
Arose quite a clatter.
A whistling air horn.
A that ringing bell.
The sound of dynamics.
Coming down Chaintown hill.
The f stops were checked.
The film advanced.
The VHS camera.
Now turned on.
The whistling continued.
In the still falling snow.
Gave such lustre.
To the two objects below.
I knew in this moment.
The spirit of St. Nick.
I drew in my head.
As I looked to the east.
Between the trees.
A sparkling headlight.
Gave me to know.
I had nothing to dread.
So lively and quick.
The courser came.
The scene captured.
In a wink of a eye.
On around the curve.
And across Chaintown bridge.
The whistling continued.
On into Jacobs Creek.
I swore I could hear.
As they passed out of sight.
Now Dasher…now Dancer…
Prancer and Vixen.
On Comet on Cupid…
Dunder and and Blizen…

M e r r y C h r I s t m a s

PS: I have a actual video of this scene.
If I only knew how to post it.

Correct Jerry, that Alco sat there at Chaintown for several weeks before it was moved to Rook then onto Brewster.
