When was the Montour bridge at Longview removed?
Also, are there any good sites out there with good information on the Montour RR through the area?
Thanks |

Well I am guessing here, but I would say that that bridge was removed in about 1982. As far as a site for the Montour www.montourrr.com |

Flordia Mike...your close...
The Montour RR overpass at the East End Longview Yard was removed in June of 1980. A private contractor used 2 days to remove the double track structure. The siding side of the bridge was removed first, then the main track. A 6 axle highway crane was brought in and made 4 lifts to remove all 4 girder sections. The inside cross members were torched out and allowed to fall to the ground below. Removal of the structure was recorded indepthly...N&W's last train to pass under the Montour overpass was a Red General Electric C-30-7. N&W only had 6 red locomotives at this time, and photographing one of them on the P&WV at this very moment was a neat final tribute...
