This from a P&WV derailment report.
6:45 P.M. May 10, 1961.
Extra 65-90 East, Conductor J.L. Dunmire,
Engineer J.R. Dixon, derailed the west pair of wheels
of the west truck of NYC 873110, an empty hopper, about 15-car lengths
west of the east switch of Wayco Storage track, Wayco Ohio.
Extra 65-90 had instructions to pick-up 13 empties off the
Wayco Storage track and place them on the Betsy Lead and,
while pulling the 13 empties from the Storage Track at a speed of
about 5 MPH. the west pair wheels of the west truck on NYC 873110
left the rails about 15 car-lengths west of the east switch.
Apparently because of a piece of wood or stone placed under the wheel by a trespasser.
A Wreck Master & 4 shop groundmen from Rook re-railed the car
by 12:30 PM. Total Co. Cost $59.66 !!! |
