Not sure if everyone has heard the news, but Weaver Models is closing

The good news for people who use Scalecoat paint,

Sad to hear that Weaver is closing. I'm glad that Scalecoat was sold. That's nice paint. I, for one, enjoy painting and weathering and I appreciate having options available to me. I wonder if Weaver's closing is due to to economics. Despite the economic indicators showing we're moving along, the fact remains that there just isn't as much disposable income that there once was. That puts a big hurt on small specialty businesses.

I read on one of the Model Railroad forums, The owner just wants to retire.

News from Atlas at the NMRA convention:

In a move that bolsters its already large back-catalog of O scale model
railroading products, Atlas has announced an agreement with Weaver
Models that brings a host of popular locomotive and freight cars into the
fold. This announcement comes on the heels of Weaver Models closing its
doors at the end of June 2015.
“It was with sadness that we heard Weaver Models was shutting down
operations,” said Paul Graf, CEO of Atlas Model Railroad Company, Inc.
“However, we are pleased to announce that we will be bringing many of
their models back to the market so that they can be enjoyed by a new
generation of model railroaders. These products will fit right in with our
existing lines and we are committed to bringing them to market with the
high quality that you’ve come to expect from Atlas.”
Tooling acquired in the agreement includes the 2-8-0, U25B, RS11 and
VO-1000 locomotives, the Troop Sleeper and Kitchen Cars, the Pullman
Bradley Coaches, the War Emergency Gondola, the Wagontop Box Car;
and the H30 Covered Hopper. In addition, the molds for the 20’
Containers and telephone poles have also been obtained.
Announcement dates for the models have not been decided at this time.

In my opinion, this is good news for people in O scale. It looks like the
Weaver line will be saved. We've already seen that Scale Coat paint was
sold to a company in MA and now Atlas is picking up the tooling for the O scale models.
