Last Friday eve. did some train stuff @ the West Homestead/ Water- Front Station. With one of
my young grandsons in tow, we had a chance meet with one {Paul Roth}.
Fans not familiar with Mr. Roth, he is a Western Penna. area rail fan writer,
photographer and author of several railroad related books.
Paul's current selection of books are listed on Amazon.Com

At 83 years young, splitting his residence in Fla. and in Pittsburgh's
Squirrel-Hill neighborhood, he's still out taking R.R. images.
Of particular interest to Hi-Line & Alphabet Route fans, is that he grew up
in McKeesport Pa. Shooting all of the local & less known
locations and railroads in Western Pa. Circa. 1950's & 60's.
By 1962, Paul had a good 35mm camera, and could use it. He began taking
a great many COLOR slide images. One of witch is on page 62,
of his current "Railroad Vistas" book.
Captured in 1962, a P&WV Alpha-Jet east bound, climbing the
hill at Longview. Working hard with four(4) FM-H20-44's
on the point.
... maybe, plan to again meet-up with Paul, and talk/do
an early 1960's Alphabet Route Color Historical Image presentation on
our Hi-Line site.
Also of note, Paul took a bunch of 1965-1970 N&W images all along the
132 mile mainline. One of which, an almost new GP-35 #1300 at
Rook. Very early 1965, framed under the old, still standing coal-tower.
..and last, yes he did take many images of all the local & regional
short-lines.
It was a real pleasure to meet/talk to Paul Roth!

I was looking at his list of books on Amazon and was wondering how good his books are both in content and supporting photographic evidence. Any reviews or comments? _________________ Blane |
