Several days ago myself & two young grandsons had a
chance meet with the WLE Road Foreman (ex-Southern Pacific Man)
down at the Bruceton Inter-change. He and another ROW guy were hi-rail
inspecting/working the Line East. Marking ties(for replacement) checking joints,
switch's etc.
Word was... "traffic is good & growing". Some tie/surface, stick-rail,
(which at some point will create CWR sections) some bridge & siding work
planned as well.
Nice news for this part of the R.R....
asked about Clariton/Monessen branch, bridge painting? and
additional interchange plans ? etc.
He was not sure, or not know of future specific work. Maybe some
"car storage for parts of Clairton Branch".
This is all the current east info we have, anyone care to add? |

Drove/walked down to Bruceton/Pierce this P.M.
The track gang guys had all their private cars & pick-ups parked
in the area between AVR/WLE interchange. Looked a bit like a
Wal-mart parking lot.
The tie-gang working East from Rook, and are by Pierce M.P. 39.7
Replaced lots & lots of worn ties, some sections (on curves)
almost every tie was replaced.
Will work continue past M.P. 21, and finish-up
@ C'ville?
Some word has this:
when the tie job is completed, a surface gang might spread ballast along parts of the entire
East-end. ( Hope the Tamper & Ballast Regulator will follow. )
Some worn curves
may even be replaced by CWR.
... guess will soon see, project may be done by Sept. ???
25mph with only very few slow orders. |

Most of the WLE on this end is Class 3, 40 mph track. It would be nice to see that all the way to C-ville but probably not necessary. _________________ Eric Schlentner

How many trains go to Connellsville? What is the frequency? Are there any coke trains running over the line out of Monessen? I'd like to see the P&WV get busy again across the entire line. How many trains a day run out of Rook now? _________________ Regards,

Rich,
... don't know for sure just how many total trains
are on the move over the East-End line. But would guess
the average would be about 3-4 trains per-18hr. period.
Could be more.
Here's what we seen & heard today, Wed. July 23,
About 7-7:30? A.M. heard a loaded West-bound Coke? train @ Stilley Rd./Bruceton/Longview.
Guess as soon as he cleared into Rook Yard,
2 WE Units with 33 & 1 pulled Rook-East to Bruceton Interchange.
About the same time frame, three(3)grey AVR GP-40-2's with 50+were pulling
out of Glenwood, heading-up for Bruceton .
The two crews AVR/WLE did the same basic exchange/moves reported previous.
Quick & flawless hand-offs.
Interesting, as this AVR man cleared into Glenwood, a second AVR train
Washington/84 Pa. was get'n ready to make his run.
We're watch'n two of the grand-kids these summer morn's,
while mom & dad work to buy that new Jefferson Hills house. |
