Just a heads up.
Was at the local bookstore today and picked up the Spring 2014 issue of Classic Trains. There is a nice 2 page photo with a short write up by Bill Metzger on Rook Yard right around the transition to diesel power complete with labeling of the shop complex. I had no idea there was once a drive in theater across the street from where the roundhouse sat.
If you have a chance, check it out.
Any Barnes and Noble should have a copy.

Yes Sir! The GreenTree Drive-in.
If you look close, many pics from the 1950's
taken at Rook, one can see some back-round
images of the Big-Screen.
Very close to the Roundhouse, good view
of the fuel/sanding & ready tracks from much of the parking area.
In my grade school days a Movie/Snacks/Busy Rook Yard.
Later in High School era (Bishop Canevin class of 66') about 1/2 mile
away...Fri-Sat. date nites, my 1959 Rambler Classic & Canevin Girls,
some really Fun-times! ... was NOT paying much attention
to any train activity.
...and a favorite Beach-Boy-Tune.

I think the last movie I saw there was Caddyshack. |

Very Nice! Always neat to see something P&WV in a national magazine.
... looking at the Rook Yard Image.
Maybe, two sna-fu's. The block labeled
"Agent's/Yard Office" is that not the newer MOW/Motor Pool
Garage?
Very close-by, to the right (very small structure)
would be the Agents/Yard Office, bit later to include CTC/Dispatcher.
A few years back, Bill Metzger donated several large box's of original P&WV materials
and images to the Hi-Line. We have a like(same?)
8X10 crop-image in the archive collection, circa: mid-55'. |
