Over these past few weeks, been do'n lots of road
travels. Sorry to say, could not take the PWV-93'Metro....

Down to Deep Creek, (Oakland & Garret Co. Md.)
Then, way-down to the "Wild & Wonderful
West Virgina & Blue Ridge Mts. " Took all back country roads on this trek.
Ride'n the Potomac Eagle & Cass and some other fun train/railroad stuff. Not much
cell phone, inter-net, or GPS in them back-mountain-hollows.
Had to take the new wagon,
the O'l 93' Metro would not make it. Too small to haul a
bunch of grand-kids. No power from the 4cyl. prime-mover.
Maybe, needs better traction motors to pull those mountain grades?
Now, home base for a shot time, roll some more coins from the piggy-bank,
then maybe a Southern Sea-shore jaunt.

JZ, Sounds like you had a great trip. Did you stop by the Western Maryland Scenic railroad on your way? Suzie and I were there a few years ago, the station looks fantastic and it was nice to finally get to ride around Helmstetter curve. When we were there, they didn't turn the 734 on the table at Frostburg, they had a GP30 on the rear of the train to drag us back to Cumberland. We were a little disappointed with the station at Frostburg, it was empty, no cafeteria as reported. It's been over 10 years since we've made it to Cass, but that was another trip we both enjoyed. We haven't rode the Potomac Eagle yet, what is your opinion on the Potomac Eagle? Retirement age is fast approaching for me, even though they've moved the goal post by a few years. The way things are going I'm not sure if I want to retire, but at the same token I don't feel like working for the rest of my life either. I might have to get a few of those penny wrappers off of you.......

we did do the WM Scenic Rail-thing last year.
This included a GP-30 Cab-Ride for the two younger train-fan
grand-children. Also, a personalized tour of the (GCR) WM-SD 40-2's.
These were parked at the Cumberland Station, waiting to go up the mountain(Frostburg) on a photo shoot.
This past June, we did the "Thomas-the-Train" thing at Strasburg Pa.
On the way back, next day....a side trip to EBT @ Orbisonia Pa.

If the $$$ holds out, me & just the boys are taking mid-August Amtrak(Pennsylvanian)
to Harrisburg and back, for one full day of train ride'n before School.

The Potomac Eagle...was the very best! Great hosts, fantastic Motive
power B&O and C&O painted passinger Covered Wagons(F-7/9's)! With
matching coach's, cafe, Open-gon & first-class cars. Just a great look'n train!

The ride up/down the deep hidden Potomac River Valley was
super! You really do see the American Bald Eagles fly'n & nesting
along the very steep Mountain & river sides.... Well worth the trip!

BTW,
if you go....seek out the engine crew member, a WM trainmen/ engineer with 35+ years of running WM coal trains on the Elkins Sub.
" cut my railroad teeth run'n them f's and ALCO's " ....he told some
great WM stories.
