| Sad news coming out of Rook, demolition has started in removing the car shop buildings. The metal spot shop building is gone as are two smaller brick buildings just east of the spot shop. The bigger car shop building is already missing one wall and probably by weeks end will also be just a memory. |

Well, yet another chapter has come to a close.
A bit sad indeed, I'll bet many P&WV fans/employees felt the same way
when they pulled down the Roundhouse, Coaling Tower & filled-in the
turn-table-pit....watching these events is for the most part not easy or fun.
I guess you got to just record-it, and move on.

Does any one know if there are any plans of using the space? or are they just tearing down unused and un-maintained buildings?
JZ, do you have any photo's on the web site showing the car shops in use? Any interior photo's of the roundhouse?

...Hmmm, Rich, I think we do have a few pics in the D. Elder
collection. All B/W some Steam rebuild (mid-1920's??). Also, original? prints from
past Hi-lines issues, diesel & car-shop/spot-shop and maybe a few others.
I think they are all over at JR's. In D.Elder pile, Needs the
Hi-Line scan, clean & adjust treatments. Will look when I get a chance. |
