One more thing, as some of you read over the
below message threads...you should also be aware of
another GPS labor.

The MP markers!

Yes sir, many/most of the old P&WV cement M.P. markers
were re-set/adjusted & re-painted in the 90's by Gene.
Even those very dark-days on the "New W&LE" when,
the switch at Longview was spiked...No movements East,
Rusty Main line & tree branchs & weeds on the ROW,
one could aways spot a glimmer of hope...
A standing straight & tall
fresh painted mile-marker in sometimes the most "remote of locations"!!!
I remember meeting up one day, out near Woodrow/Rea.
Planning a early grain train shoot, a marker was look'n real bad.
The very next day ol'e Gene had me out there with him.
Shovel, Pry-bar, wire brush & two small cans (black & white)
out-door paint.
Again...attention to the details.
Most of these sentinels still look good & stand tall, SOooooo try to include these
in your pics & video's

Jer;

Another story on Mile Posts.
I knew many of the maintenance of way guys.
Always willing to lend a ear when I needed something done.
Only time I ever asked for help was when it was beyond my capabilities.
Take Mile post 24 for example.
True story, just the facts.
Shelby & I were over at MP 24 one day.
Along comes track patrol ahead of....
A short stop and quick conversation.
Turns out in the next few days missing mile posts had to be replaced.
Those tin mile posts were going up where needed.
Concrete Mile Post 24 was knocked over & slid down the embankment.
PLEASE, I asked both guys in the Hi-Railer.
When you come back this way, can you put a rope around it.
Then drag it back up to the right of way.
I'll replant it next weekend.
Sure enough, I returned 1 week later with my shovel.
Concrete Mile Post 24 was recovered & Lying next to the roadbed.
I dug a new & deep hole.
Then hoisted that concrete monster back into its new hole.
After making sure she was straight& centered, I backfilled the hole & tamped it.
A wire brush & some new gloss white paint & she was brandy new looking.
