Well, yet another great series of pic up-dates on the new Westland Branch.
Not many folks can do a better image job than JR!
We hope you Hi-line fans that live far away,
and cannot see this "up-close & personel" can get a
better understanding of the size & scope of this ROW/Transportation
project.
This is indeed, a rare MTR/P&WV/WE event!

Hi JR/JZ,
Thank you for posting these series of photo's, they look great and do give everybody a good idea of the progress. From what I can tell around the George Transfer area (Southview road and Galati Roads) It looks like the new Westland branch is going to cross Galati road at grade? I know it's still a ways off, but I'm already getting excited about the throught of seeing a train on the Westland branch again.
Regards,
Rich S.
P.S. I've been working on a "V" scale Montour route using Rail Works 3 Train Simulator 2012. Here is a screen shot taken on the Virtual Montour at Galati Road looking toward the P&WV.

WOW!
Rich,
looks great!
It's simply amazing that such a scene can be digitally duplicated.
Your efforts are admired and appreciated.
You are keeping the past alive!
Keep up the great work!

Hi Rich,
Thank you for the compliments on the route. I just released a public beta of the route. It's available in the RWA file library under the routes section, October. The track is complete between Groveton and Mifflin Jct, including the Westland, Muse and Library secondary tracks. Scenery is about 80% complete between Groveton and Hills.
Regards,
Rich S.
P.S. Do you have any new videos of the P&WV / W&LE? One of my favorites is your video at the Morgan viaduct. That brings back many found memories. |

JR/JZ - Great coverage. Might have to take a day trip over there to poke around and gawk. One question though - anyone know how far down the WE are they going to put the connection? That'll be a lot of fill to bring in.
Rich - Your work on the MTR kinda makes me want to ask Santa for some new software... |

Hey Jayrod,
Good to hear from you.
It's our understanding that large amounts of special fill material will be
delivered by rail.(George/Southview) connection at the WLE.
Switch/siding(s) and @ grade connection will/or should be the
first place to see ROW/trackwork. The story/plan we hear is
that this Grade/ROW/Track area may need to be completed so that
other ROW prep-material/rail & tie and other track & building materials
can be shipped in.
Oct. 19th about 4pm I did another drive-by, George/Southview connection area.
Two(2) large clearing crews were very busy on/near the WE
main & future connection ROW site.
Interesting stuff! It might be a worth-while rail fan trip.
Keep-safe, obey the contractors & respect the kind of
clearing work involved. These guys will see this, then may offer more specific project information
when/if you get a chance to talk to them...
post what you find-out. |
