Hello to all railroad historians, employees and fans:

The A. D. White Research Association is having a RAILROAD HISTORY DAY at Avella, PA on Saturday May 21, 2011 from 10AM to ????

This Avella-area railroad-history event will be held in the St. Michael's Catholic Church Social Hall from 10AM to 3 PM
(this is one of the largest indoor meeting places in Avella). The railroads emphasized will the the P&WV / Nickle Plate / W&LE railroad
that passes through Avella, plus other railroads which at one time existed in the area (the Montour, Conrail, etc.).
The program structure will be flexible (displays, discussions, relating of area railroad stories, etc.).
Bring any items, books, maps, etc. which you would like to display and any railroad-related information
or stories that you would like to discuss. Lunch items
will be available for purchase during most of this five-hour period. After 3 PM
those who wish to stay later will go over to the restored Avella railroad station. Reservations are not required, but the people sponsoring
the event would like to get an idea of how many participants will be coming.
If you think that you might be able to come, please RSVP to me (dndwilliams@...) and I will pass the information along to the people at Avella.

To get to Avella, PA from eastern Ohio, take Ohio Rt 43 or 7 to downtown Stubenville and cross the Ohio River
on the Market Street Bridge. At the east end of the bridge turn right (south) onto WVA route 2 and follow it to Wellsville, WVA. Find WVA route 27 and follow it east
(away from the Ohio River) to the WVA-Penna state line where it becomes PA route 844.
Follow that about a mile to Indepandance, PA and turn left onto PA route 50 and follow that road to Avella.

If any question, please contact me.
Dick Williams, dndwilliams@... or 330-704-1785
