Hello, I'm detailing an O scale Northeast caboose and was wondering what color lenses were used on the marker lights. If it makes a difference, it will be used running into and out of Bowest Jct. and into a staging track. Also, what was the air horn used for?
Thank you in advance.
WM Dave

Welcome aboard WM1400.

The color lenses on marker lamps (we think) were all Red sided.
Several Hi-Line fans have these originals in their P&WV collections.
The P&WV used both the Dietz/Vesta and Adlake/Kero types.
When new, these lamps had a non-painted metal finish.
It did not take much time for these markers to pick-up a rich black, graphite patina to the metal surface.
Lamp oil, dirt & road dust etc.
The cupla-horn on P&WV steel cabs were for train crew signals and grade/crossing warnings.
The P&WV had many regular long train & back-up switching/transfer moves.

BTW, no northeastern steel cabs had any under-side frame mounted tool box's.
Also, a few cabs had a brass air whistle mounted on either the "coup" or " cab end wall ".
Some later re-shopped hacks had these brass guys mounted on end hand/grab rails.
