East end of Briton Yard Akron, Ohio.
This is the last photograph(s) of a P&WV caboose #827 in regular revenue service (shoving plat-form).
Does anyone know the fate of this caboose?
Photo by me... May of 1992???

Roger K from the Coboose Site sent me this:
A notation on page 1 of 'Bowers, Robert G., 2004, All Time Roster: N&W Cabooses,
Data Series: Vol. 2: Roanoke, VA, N&W Historical Society, 120 pages, ISBN
0-9704794-3-3' says "3-94 Wrecked and scrapped ar Rook, Pa. on W&LE R/R". Roger
Could this be???
Did the WE scrap an old diesel powered (NKP) WE # ??? work crane
at Rook about this time period? |

VW,
I did find a pick and about 90-seconds of video of the WE /NKP Diesel Crane at the west end of Rook just before scrapping.
Are you or any other folks buying into the #500827 caboose scrapped at Rook story/Info.???
I'm very sure you, and a few others would have had this on film or somehow documented this event.
I don't recall any cab(s) burned at Rook in the WE era. |

I don't recall hearing the 827 was cut up at Rook.
Many folks at Rook would of made sure I knew about it if that was the case.
I did hear all about the crane but was not there for the event.
I am hoping a email to a friend in Brewster is returned with a date and disposition.

The 827 was one of those we were trying to locate about a year or so ago. I had inquired about it at Brewster, also, but never heard back and didn't want to pester. Hope you have better luck. _________________ Eric Schlentner
