Camp Car Bill;
Came across a 1940's black & white negative of a fan trip on the P&WV.
The negative, taken from back in the train of a Eastbound starting out on Mingo Creek, taken when trees were kept cut in and around the bridges, this negative has a high boy switch lamp near the West End of Mingo Creek. I can not see a switch stand in the photo.
Any idea what the purpose of the switch lamp?

I can not help on this switch lamp.I did not start to work on the railroad until March 29,1951.I do know while the Bridge Gang was pumping grout in State Line Tunnel around 1964 another gang or contactor was pumping grout into the hill on the west end of Mingo Creek Bridge.The railroad always had trouble with the track on the west end of the bridge.Maybe in the early days of the C'Ville extension they had a spur track to dump fill here.

GPS,
Could the photo date be June 1949? Was the image taken by a fan on the two day"Rail Ramble" trip?
I have seen several photos (run-buy) at both the East & West end of the bridge.

Jer;
I think your correct.
I believe there was a watch box at Mile Post 34 (West End Mingo Creek)
I'll have to look in the piles of slow orders / bulletin notices to see if there is indication there.
I'm sure it probably has something to do with the troulbe mentioned by CCB.

GPS,
Check out the pages 94 & 95 in the NKP book by John Corns.
"Publicity Photos 1943-1952 Vol. 1" These could give a clue about the switch lantern.
Also, the Rail Ramble pic on the High Mingo Bridge in 1949.
