A Hi-Line Comprehensive Historical Image Look At Avella Station. Way Back When, Then, And Now!

The Avella Station was restored and opened to the public this past month. The restoration project was done by the A.D. White Research Society in Avella Pa. Bill Poellot, Jr. co-author of the Pittsburgh & West Virginia Railway Book is one of the members who worked hard to bring this project to life. Ed McDonald and Gene Schaeffer took the very first steps on the rehabilitation of the station. They had the foresight to put in long hours taking hundreds of field measurements of the building to preserve history, should it ever be lost. Ed spent additional time and money transferring these measurements to scale CAD drawings. These drawings were made available to the architectural firm of LDA Associates and became the starting files for the contract plans that ultimately made up the bid package for the rehabilitation. They did a tremendous job, as you can see by our images. It was great to see people take interest and save a piece of P&WV history. The Hi-Line congratulates them on a job well done!
